My AI-Powered Study Hacks

I had a tough time when everything turned remote due to COVID-19.  I have always been the kind of student who learns best in a face-to-face class where I can listen to the professor, ask questions on the go, and interact with fellow students. At first, I found it hard to concentrate and keep up with my lessons; sitting in front of a screen for just hours felt unnatural. It was frustrating too because I recognized that it wasn’t easy and that I had to adjust, but I didn’t know how to do it. Over the years, I found digital tools that made it easier for me to adjust. Three of the apps that made a huge difference to me are ChatGPT, Grammarly, and Notebook LM.

ChatGPT became my virtual study buddy. I often found myself going through the modules countless times, yet I still won’t grasp the topic. ChatGPT made it easier for me to pick up lessons. I asked the text generator to break down ideas into simpler terms. Furthermore, I can tell it to give me examples and to give me practice questions. I always remind myself that it’s just a guide; I have to make good use of it and never let it do the work for me.

Grammarly, meanwhile, turned into my personal writing coach. I had to submit many essays and reports, so it helped me correct grammar mistakes and improve my clarity and tone.  I used to spend hours revising essays, unsure if my sentences were clear or my grammar correct. Grammarly helped me identify errors I hadn’t noticed and suggested better ways to phrase my ideas. My writing over time improved as I used it and learned from it.

Last but not least, as a college student who has collected many readings and notes, a new find of Notebook LM has saved my life. Notebook LM really helped to keep track of my readings and notes, which can definitely get overwhelming as a college student. Rather than scrolling endlessly through PDFs, I can upload the PDFs and receive a quick summary or answer to specific questions. It doesn’t make the decisions for me, but it sure makes studying easier and helps me to review faster.

These tools not only made it easier to learn online but also helped me to grow as an independent and confident learner. I learned that even if I struggled, I could eventually adapt to and flourish in a virtual set-up. Still, technology is only as good as how we use it. ChatGPT, Grammarly, Notebook LM mentor and aide me, but ultimately, it’s my work, discipline, and honesty that determine how much I learn. It should go without saying that only genuine hard work and understanding are sufficient, not only apps or AI. These tools are not shortcuts; they are stepping stones that helped me learn smarter, so I’m prepared for whatever comes next in school and life.
